This is the 2nd year I was asked to be the official photographer for Vacation Bible School at Kalamazoo Missionary Church. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from last year, and applied that knowledge to this year, which helped me out tremendously.
The biggest challenge is dealing with 6 different lighting situations. Each area I photographed in had different kind of light, different light quality and color, different ceiling heights and wall distances, plus the wall and ceiling color differences. The last thing I wanted was to work with a lot of equipment. After all, I was following a bunch of small children around, and even though most of them are familiar with my camera and with me, I didn’t want them to be paying me any attention.
Here are the highlights. First the kids:
Of course, one of the highlights of VBS is the skit. Every evening a different skit was debuted as a continuing story. This year, featured actors included the Associate Pastor and his wife. I had the privilege of simulating a thunderstorm on the last night, but unfortunately I couldn’t simulate the storm and photograph it at the same time. It was something to see!
I had a fabulous time, and went by incredibly fast. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves as well. The slide show I showed to the congregation during the Sunday service was a hit too. Can’t wait for next year!
